COMMUNITY BUILDING & SPIRITUAL TRANSFORMATION OF THE INDIVIDUAL
“The betterment of the world can be accomplished through pure and goodly deeds; through commendable and seemly conduct.”
Bahá’u’lláh
Building a global civilization envisaged by Bahá’u’lláh cannot be accomplished through the scattered efforts of individuals, no matter how devoted and well-meaning they may be. A community, unified in thought and action, has to come into being, grow, and move from strength to strength. Achieving Bahá’u’lláh’s unifying vision requires an ever-growing pool of people at the very grassroots of the community, capable of contributing to the accomplishment of the myriad tasks at hand. These myriad tasks are referred to as the ‘institute process’ and all engaged in the process describe in eloquent terms their experience of a process capable of transforming character and shaping social existence. The nature of the Institute Process is an ongoing conversation taking place among friends in thousands upon thousands of social spaces – neighbourhoods, villages, schools, universities, and workplaces – concerned with contributing to the advancement of civilization through the application of Bahá’u’lláh’s teachings. As the number of participants in the conversation grows, processes to achieve collective spiritual and material goals in each space are set in motion.
The principle elements of the Institute Process are referred to as ‘Core Activities’ and include children's classes, the junior youth empowerment programme, study circles and devotional gatherings.
